Ride along with Owens, Hill, Douglas or Sexton at Volunteer Speedway

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — Looking for the perfect present for the race fan on your Christmas gift list? How about a ride in the Volunteer Speedway two-seater Late Model around the high banks on Saturday, Jan. 2, with your choice of driver between four of East Tennessee’s top chauffeur’s behind the wheel in Jimmy Owens, Vic Hill, Mark Douglas or Scott Sexton … all track champions at “The Gap.”

Each driver brings impressive credentials to the table. Owens, from Newport, over the past couple of years on the national scene has won some dirt Late Model racing’s crown jewel events such as the World 100 and Dream, held at Eldora (Ohio) Speedway, along with North-South 100 at Florence (Ky.) Speedway, and Topless 100 at Batesville (Ark.) Speedway. Hill, from Morristown, has won more track championships (1997, 1998, 2000, 2005 and 2009) at Volunteer Speedway than any other driver and is approaching 100 career wins at “The Gap.” Douglas, from Knoxville, captured back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003. Sexton, from Pigeon Forge, won championships in 1991 and 1995.

The cost for five laps in the two-seater Late Model is $50, and everyone purchasing prior to Christmas will receive a gift certificate to give the recipient. Rides will also be available for purchase at the track on Saturday, Jan. 2. However, if purchased day of event the cost remains $50, but for only three laps. The ride-along is scheduled from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. Should inclement weather force postponement on Saturday, Jan. 2, the event will be rescheduled for the following Saturday (Jan. 9).

To preserve memories of your ride-along experience, Volunteer Speedway official photographer Randall Perry will be present taking photos of participants.

    I had an opportunity to do one of these ride alongs at The Mountain last summer. You won’t be disappointed. It is well worth the $50 asking price.
