Bloomquist off to great start in 2010

It’s not as if Scott Bloomquist needs anything to boost his confidence going into a new racing season. After all, this is a man who counts his feature win trophies by the hundreds.

With that said, a good start to the 2010 season is still a welcome one for the leader of Team Zero.

In the dirt racing season’s first three races contested so far during the Southern All Star Series Super Bowl of Racing held at the Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Georgia, Bloomquist scored a first, second and a third place finish.

Considering that the end of last season no doubt left a bitter taste in the mouth of the 2009 Lucas Oil Series champion, this new beginning has to be a pleasing one.

After winning a World of Outlaws late model race in Concord, North Carolina, at the end of 2009, Bloomquist was fined and suspended after it was deemed that he had used treated tires. An appeal of the ruling eventually resulted in a reduction of the initial penalties, but it was still not the way he would have liked to end a season.

On night #1 of the Super Bowl, Bloomquist got out of the box in fine fashion. He took the win in the 40 lap, $7,500 to win feature event. He beat Jonathan Davenport and Austin Hubbard to the finish line.

On night #2, Bloomquist took 3rd place from his 10th starting spot in the 50 lap, $10,000 to win race. Josh Richards won that event followed by Dennis Erb, Jr.

The third and final night of the weekend’s racing at Golden Isles saw Bloomquist turn in another strong performance. He was just beaten to the finish line by 17 year old Austin Hubbard in the 60 lap, $12,000 to win feature.

When all was said and done after the opening three races of the season, the Mooresburg, Tennessee resident showed he will be a factor throughout the coming season.

“This weekend has given our team the confidence that 2010 could be one of our best season yet,” Bloomquist said. “We are extremely happy with the performance of this new Bloomquist Race Car.”

The three top-3 finishes gave Bloomquist the overall weekend championship. “I’m excited and proud to receive the trophy and title at Golden Isles for the 2010 Super Bowl of Racing,” he declared.

Bloomquist won the appeal of the penalties in the WoO case mentioned above. He was allowed to keep the race win and the $10,000 first prize.
